See, he's a former guest, and had got and cashed his IRS refund check. He was worried about blowing it that night, before a friend of his could pick him up the next day. So he gave me $1,300 of it. He kept $100. I was not to give it to him till the next day.
I did tell him, "Don't be calling me at 1am. I won't give it back."
So he called at 10:30pm. Yeah, he'd got started with the $100 and needed more. Another $100. Though after my initial "no's", it was "all of it". Then the inevitable threat of police. Then that he'd be out. I told him that if he came out, I'd call the police myself.
Well, he sent the police over, then came by in a taxi. I still didn't give it to him. I told him, "I know you hate me now, but tomorrow you'll know I was your friend."
There was much drama past all that, but then he left. The police left. My wife and I got to sleep around 2am.
I was ready for him to be over bright and early, but he was sleeping whatever off. I left him a message that all was well and I'd meet him any where or time. Later, in the afternoon, I met him at the library and gave him his money. Minus the cab fare, as the previous night he'd had no money for the cab.
I had gave the cabbie enough to pay for the fare out to my place, because the police said they'd arrest him otherwise, and then I also paid for him to get back to where he'd come from, so he'd not be just dumped in the cold.
I was right, the former guest knew I was his friend the next day. So that was good. I asked if I could have $100 for the difficulties that my wife and I had gone through over this. He was kind enough to agree. That was helpful.
Because that meant that on this past Thursday I could sit in the offices of our new accountant and get our 501(c)3 applied for! Filled out, sent in, and with the electronic payment to the IRS!
Yep! Surprise! We'll hear back - most likely with a "yes" - within a month or so! It's not only filed, but expedited! Finally!
This, for the long time readers, is our "final" moment! It's the last thing we needed to get but had not yet got! And now it's on it's way!
